Cipher is a custom typeface designed for my diploma editorial project, "La Main Noire".

It is based on letter shapes that need to be deciphered, and makes the reader take the time to get the message. Its creative process met inspirations from graffitis, hieroglyphs or the korean writing system known as the Hangul. A quick glimpse at enigma makes readers assume it is an enigmatic foreign language, but once focused on it reveals to be using a classic latin alphabet. Lowercase and uppercase letters are meant to work together as a cryptographic system in order to create new combinations for the reader to decipher.
